When multiple leading cannabis and hemp testing labs came together under one organization, the growth strategy was clear: expand into additional jurisdictions, continue acquiring, and serve customers who operate across state lines. The brand path forward was not so clear: should the labs remain separate entities, fold under a new name, or unify under one master brand designed to scale in a growing marketplace?

Insight

Customer research indicated that loyalty in this category was limited. Buyers prioritize reliability, service, and price, and they want comprehensive testing solutions grounded in a science-first approach. That made the brand decision urgent. A fragmented set of names would create friction, dilute trust, and slow momentum just as the business was preparing to grow. Research also showed that SC Labs carried the strongest existing brand equity of the three companies, making it the most credible and scalable foundation for a unified national brand.

Action

S3 McMillan guided leadership through the brand architecture decision and recommended unifying under a repositioned and refreshed SC Labs master brand. We clarified the value proposition and developed a messaging platform that could credibly support expansion. We defined a positioning built around delivering confidence through consistent, science-led testing across markets. We then brought the master brand to life through a distinctive visual identity system and a website experience designed to communicate the unified network with clarity, confidence, and consistency.
